Job summary

Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join the SLT team at The Royal Oldham Hospital, covering acute wards and rotating through critical care.

You will contribute to teaching, supervision of students, and CPD activities, ensuring high standards of care across services including videofluoroscopy and FEES where applicable.

Qualifications

• Specialist speech and language therapist in adult acquired communication/swallowing disorders.
• Autonomous practitioner responsible for assessment, diagnosis and management.
• Professionally and legally accountable for clinical work per standards.
• Plan, deliver and evaluate clinical audit, research and in-service training within the specialist area.

Responsibilities

• Work on acute wards across medical/surgical areas including critical care, radiology and out-ppatients.
• Participate in teaching programmes and supervise SLTs on placement.
• Contribute to CPD activities and journal clubs within the team.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy Team, working on the acute wards at The Royal Oldham Hospital, rotating into the dedicated critical care Speech and Language Therapy Team and participating in the weekly videofluoroscopy clinic and our out-patient service.
The successful post holder will join the existing team of 8 Speech and Language Therapists (6.77wte) and 2 Assistants (0.97wte) who between them cover acute medicine and surgery, critical care, neonatal intensive care, acute paediatrics, out-patients, videofluoroscopy and FEES, providing excellent opportunities for shared learning and experience. There is the expectation that the post holder will participate in the delivery of the many teaching programmes we provide to colleagues, as well as supporting our student SLTs on placement.
The team actively participate in clinical supervision both formally and informally and there is a regular journal club providing extra opportunities for CPD.

• To be a specialist speech and language therapist in the field of adult acquired communication / swallowing disorders.
• To act as an autonomous practitioner with specialist knowledge, skills and experience, assessing, diagnosing and managing patients on the caseload.
• To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of one’s professional and clinical work, working to agreed national and professional standards.
• To plan, deliver and evaluate clinical audit, research activities and in-service training within specialist area.
