Job summary

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to deliver assessment, diagnosis and intervention for adults with learning disabilities and their carers. You will provide supervision to SALTs and assistants and collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure evidence-based practice.

The role focuses on highly specialist services for complex communication disorders and/or dysphagia, promoting capacity building within teams and partnerships

Qualifications

• Assess, diagnose and intervene for adults with learning disabilities.
• Provide highly specialist SLT services for complex communication disorders and/or dysphagia.
• Supervise SALTs and SALT Assistants.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Take supervisory role to build capacity within teams.

Job description

Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

1. 1. This role sits within the multidisciplinary Community Learning Disability Team. The post holder will need a minimum of 4 yearspost qualification experience and a recognised post basic qualification in dysphagia.
2. 2. The clinical role will be to provide Speech & Language Therapy assessment, diagnosis and intervention to Adults with a LearningDisability and their carers referred to the service, using established models of Speech & Language Therapy, ensuring practice isevidence based.
3. 3. To provide a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to people with learning disabilities , who have complexcommunication disorders and /or dysphagia (eating, drinking and swallowing disorders).
4. 4. To provide supervision to other Speech and Language Therapists or Speech and Language Therapy Assistants within SussexPartnership NHS Foundation Trust as necessary.
5. 5. Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.
6. 6. Liaise and consult with other Speech and Language Therapists and/or other professions within mainstream primary andsecondary provider services.
7. 7. Take on a supervisory role with other SALTS as part of the Teams role in building capacity of others working with people whohave complex communication needs and/or dysphagia
