Job description

We are looking for 2 enthusiastic and dynamic Band 6 dietitian's - one substantive and one FTC - to join our B6 rotational adult team where you will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills, but also be involved in service development and student training.

There are ten adult rotations each lasting one year: two at St Mary's Hospital: Critical care, Liver/respiratory; four of which are based at Charing Cross Hospital: Stroke, Gastroenterology, ICU/Neurosciences, Head and Neck/Oncology and four at Hammersmith Hospital: Renal, Gastroenterology/medical, Haemato-oncology and ICU/Cardiothoracic/Cardiology. Rotations occur in April each year.

Our current vacancies are both at the St Mary's site - one in Critical Care, the other in Liver/Medicine.

You will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills, with formal training in parenteral nutrition, renal or critical care where appropriate. All rotations require skills to manage complex enteral tube nutritional support and multidisciplinary working.

We are a large, high profile, friendly department involved in undergraduate and post graduate medical training. The department is forward thinking and our service delivery is very much influenced by the audits and research projects we carry out which are supported by excellent IT facilities and Quality Improvement initiatives.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide a quality Nutrition & Dietetic service to inpatients and outpatients in accordance with established departmental guidelines.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of evidence based nutritional guidelines and service developments in the specialist area.
  • To provide speciality Nutrition & Dietetic input into education, training and development programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate medical, nursing and dietetic students in addition to other training requirement.
  • To work closely with the specialist team, wards, units and clinics in line with departmental guidelines. Attending relevant ward rounds, MDT meetings and governance meetings.
  • To liaise with and advise on dietetic issues directly contributing to the care of patients to medical and nursing staff, both internally and externally with GPs, district nurses and community teams.
  • Contribute to both internal and interdisciplinary working parties
  • To liaise with catering and diet bay staff to ensure appropriate therapeutic meal provision for patients.
  • To take an active part in the training, supervision and assessment of student Dietitians including planning and delivery of seminars/tutorials/programmes.
  • To play an active role in training healthcare professional e.g. medical, nursing and AHP's.
