Job description
A Vacancy at Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust

The Cellular Pathology department is seeking an experienced and qualified Biomedical Scientist to join our well‑established team in Lincoln. Located at Lincoln County Hospital, the department delivers a centralised Histopathology service for Lincolnshire’s two NHS Trusts and five main hospital sites, receiving in the region of 65,000 requests per annum. The laboratory provides an UKAS‑accredited service which includes Paraffin wax Histology, Diagnostic Cytopathology, Morphological staining, Special Staining, Immunocytochemistry and Whole Slide Imaging, and has also deployed molecular diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and specialist investigations in accordance with Path Links Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Analyse samples using specialist instrumentation or manual techniques with accurate measuring equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on complex, high‑value laboratory equipment.
  • Trouble‑shoot problems that arise during the working day and rectify them or seek appropriate assistance.
  • Deliver practical training to MLA, BMA, trainee and registered BMSs and act as mentor to trainee BMS staff.
Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must have HCPC registration and should have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio (or have equivalent experience). Consideration will also be given to candidates who can demonstrate substantial progress in completion of the Specialist Portfolio.

Working Hours and Service Delivery

The directorate delivers a seven‑day service to meet cancer turnaround times. The post holder will support this on a rotational basis. The department operates from 08:00 to 17:30, and the ability to work at other Path Links sites will be required on an occasional basis.
