University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Role Overview

An exciting opening for a Band 6 Physiotherapist at the Regional Wessex Neurosciences Centre. The role focuses on neurosurgery and neurology services, with strong links to hyper‑acute stroke, stroke rehabilitation and spinal services. Staff will gain experience across neurosciences and may work in other clinical areas in the future.

The Physiotherapist will provide senior clinical and operational leadership, working alongside current senior therapists and assisting with strategic development of the neuroscience therapy service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient care across a 7‑day service, including weekends and bank holidays, on a roster basis.
  • Complete specialised neuro‑specific assessments, goal‑directed treatments and multi‑therapy discharge planning.
  • Manage a varied and complex caseload and supervise B3‑5 therapy staff and students.
  • Supervise and mentor B5 staff.
  • Work closely with local community services, specialist regional units and local DGHs.
  • Participate in audit, research and service development initiatives.
  • Attend an in‑person interview with practical assessments; dress in smart, comfortable clothing.
Key Qualifications and Experience
  • Post‑graduate clinical experience working with patients who have neurological conditions.
  • Ability to carry out neurological assessments and treat patients in the acute phase.
  • Robust post‑graduate B5 or B6 Physiotherapy experience; this post involves supervision and mentoring.
  • Understanding of NHS and acute hospital settings.
  • Excellent communication skills and flexibility to accommodate the changing nature of an acute environment.

  • All therapy staff must be able to undertake flexible working over a 7‑day period, including bank holidays and weekends, on a rota basis.
