Job description

An opportunity has arisen within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board for a Physiotherapist to join our specialist Surgical Rehabilitation rotation. Rotating on a 9‑month basis, you will gain experience in a broad range of clinical areas, including Trauma, Orthopaedics, Vascular, and community‑based services such as ALAC, Cancer Prehabilitation, and a community rehabilitation team (VCRS). You must demonstrate the relevant skills, experience, and enthusiasm required for these areas.

We offer the opportunity to develop both your clinical and leadership skills. The Physio department provides full induction, a comprehensive programme of in‑service training, regular appraisal, and opportunities for further development.

Working patterns may be flexible, impacting normal contracted hours to meet service needs. Possible patterns include extended days or 7‑day job plans.

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage your own patient caseload across the specialist clinical areas.
  • Participate in on‑call service (overnight and weekends), working independently and managing the respiratory needs of complex critically ill patients.
  • Provide support for the clinical supervision of physiotherapists, student physiotherapists, and support staff.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to deliver physiotherapy services to patients with multi‑pathology, complex needs, and cognitive/behavioural problems.

  • Current staff of Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board only.
  • Strong demonstration of core values and beliefs of the Health Board.
  • Ability to work in a wide variety of clinical settings and with complex patient populations.

  • Post holders must be able to work flexibly as per service demands.
  • Non‑UK or Republic of Ireland nationals require sponsorship for a Health and Care visa or Skilled Worker visa; self‑assessment and application costs outlined on Work in the UK.
  • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, though Welsh or English speakers are equally welcome.
