Job summary

The Digital Pharmacy Team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust has an opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician focused on improving medicines pathways through technology and data.

Developmental role offering a structured pathway from Band 6 to Band 7 focusing on informatics and analytics.

The postholder will initially join as a Band 6, developing specialist knowledge in digital medicines management, data analysis and pharmacy systems. Upon successful completion of defined competencies the individual will progress to Band 7, taking on greater responsibility for service development and project leadership, supporting digital pharmacy innovation across all sites at GSTT.

Main duties of the job
Band 6 (Developmental Phase)
  • Engage in a structured training and development programme, building expertise in data analysis, digital systems, and project management.
  • Maintain and update digital medicines systems at the Royal Brompton and Harefield sites, seeking continuous opportunities to align practice and management with wider GSTT Pharmacy, including Omnicell cabinets/robots and temperature monitoring.
Band 7
  • Lead pharmacy analytics, data strategy implementation and cross‑site informatics leadership.
  • Support the development and implementation of relevant digital technology for pharmacy service, leading projects to improve these systems and advancing Pharmacy's digital maturity.
  • Manage pharmacy analytics queries and produce high‑quality reports, dashboards and user tools using SQL, Python and PowerBI.
  • Provide expert advice, training and support to pharmacy and clinical staff on digital systems, acting as a digital champion and key contact for troubleshooting and optimisation.
  • Lead projects to continually improve digital systems and share best practices across sites.

Knowledge / Qualifications (Essential)
  • BTEC/NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Service
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification
Knowledge / Qualifications (Desirable)
  • Higher apprenticeship or post‑graduate qualification in Data Science, Data Analytics or equivalent; or relevant post‑graduate professional qualification or equivalent experience.
Previous experience (Essential)
  • Significant experience working in a hospital pharmacy environment as a qualified Pharmacy Technician, using digital systems to facilitate safe medicines supply.
  • Good understanding of confidentiality issues and the Data Protection Act.
  • A good operational knowledge of computer hardware and relevant software.
  • Demonstrated experience of multidisciplinary team (MDT) working.
  • Knowledge of BI reporting software such as Crystal Reports, Business Objects or PowerBI.
Previous experience (Desirable)
  • Experience as a Medicines Management Technician.
  • Strong interest in informatics, analytics and programming, underpinned by significant experience or theoretical study.
  • Experience in project leadership.
  • Experience of training and development of staff.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of NHS IT issues.
  • Knowledge of managing pharmacy automation.
  • Experience using digital medicines systems.
