Job description
Job Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to join our forward‑thinking, patient‑focused Orthopaedic team for a fixed 1‑year maternity cover period. The role involves providing a comprehensive medication management service for orthopaedic elective and trauma patients and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members including nurses, surgical care practitioners, doctors and consultants.

Responsibilities
  • Provide pre‑operative assessment and counselling of patients.
  • Write electronic drug charts and discharge prescriptions, and complete drug charts for emergency admissions.
  • Optimise medicines for inpatients and conduct therapeutic drug monitoring.
  • Prescribe for all inpatients where authorised and support the SDAU pharmacy team in timely medication provision.
  • Assist in clinical pharmacy services to orthopaedic wards in liaison with the Clinical Pharmacy Team Leaders.
  • Act as a specialist pharmacist, delivering advanced clinical pharmacy service to a high‑risk patient population, including medication optimisation and evidence‑based practice.
  • Initiate and actively implement service developments, such as one‑stop dispensing, patient self‑administration schemes, and use of patients’ own drugs.
  • Engage in audit and quality improvement projects to meet local and national targets and maximize patient flow.
Eligibility & Requirements

Suitable applicants who are not prescribers will be considered. Current UK professional registration is required. The role does not meet UKVI eligibility for a Skilled Worker Visa, and a Certificate of Sponsorship cannot be issued.
