Overview
The Specialist Oncology Pharmacist is a key role in ensuring the delivery and development of a first-class clinical oncology pharmacy service to the Oncology ward and hospital departments.
Responsibilities
- Providing a comprehensive and patient-centred Clinical Pharmacy service to oncology and chemotherapy day unit patients at Cromwell Hospital in accordance with the hospital's objectives to ensure safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of drugs.
- Act as a specialist oncology pharmacist and provide a patient-focused clinical pharmacy ward service to the oncology ward and chemotherapy day unit.
- Ensure safe management of the oncology electronic prescribing system and appropriate management of the introduction of new oncology medicines.
- Communicate information relating to medicines management within the oncology setting to clinical colleagues, nurses, independent prescribers, carers and patients.
- Attend and actively contribute to oncology MDTs and ward rounds.
- Lead safe and effective use of oncology medicines, including electronic prescribing and new drug introductions.
- Support service development, audits, and external accreditation efforts.
- Develop and implement oncology pharmacy policies and clinical guidelines.
- Mentor and supervise pharmacy technicians and junior pharmacists.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy.
- Demonstrable evidence of experience and further study within clinical pharmacy.
- SACT knowledge acquired working as a cancer pharmacist.
- Significant experience in providing highly specialist Cancer Services.
- Contribution to MDT ward rounds.
