A leading healthcare provider in Scotland is seeking a motivated Occupational Therapist to enhance service delivery for older adults. This permanent, full-time position requires a registered therapist with a degree and strong leadership skills. The role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care and improve service processes. Opportunities for professional development and training are available.
Are you passionate about the care of older adults? Are you looking for variety in your work life? Are you keen to be actively involved in service development? If so, we have a first of its kind exciting opportunity for a specialist occupational therapist to become the interface between acute and community hospitals, joining not only our Clydesdale and Stonehouse Community Hospital Service but also the acute Medicine of the Older Adults team at University Hospital Wishaw!
As part of a multidisciplinary team our services work in line with discharge without delay principles providing occupational therapy assessment, treatment and discharge planning for patients within University Hospital Wishaw and Stonehouse Hospital in Stonehouse. We treat, predominantly, older adults with a range of medical conditions including frailty, falls, stroke, dementia, and a wide range of orthopaedic conditions.
We are forward thinking teams consisting of senior health care support workers, assistant practitioners and registered occupational therapists. We regularly support occupational therapy student placements – utilising both traditional and innovative approaches to placements. We are passionate about service development not only within the occupational therapy service, but with the wider MDT. Some recent and ongoing work includes reviewing the MDT approach to reducing falls and continuing to develop our active wards approach. Our current occupational therapy work plan also includes upskilling the AHP team knowledge and skills in working with older people who are neurodivergent, implementation of an outcome measure and improving goal setting.
We are looking for a motivated, experienced and forward thinking occupational therapist to join our teams and to assist in the leadership and development of our team. The preferred candidate is adaptable, responsive to challenges and can bring their experience to support the transition of care for patients between the acute and community hospitals.
We will provide a thorough induction, regular supervision, regular team meetings, CPD time and access to training opportunities. This role will provide particular opportunity to develop leadership and service development skills through practical application and access to several NHS Lanarkshire leadership courses (application necessary).
The working pattern will be discussed following interview with the preferred candidate. However, travel between sites is to be expected to provide clinical cover and support to colleagues as well as to attend meetings/training events.
