Job description
Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the multidisciplinary team within Integrated Community Paediatric Services in Suffolk. You will work as a Specialist Nursery Nurse within the Community Complex Care Team. The team provides 24/7 short break care to children/young people with complex health needs in their own homes, enabling families to have a much-needed break. The role involves working across community settings, liaising with professionals, observing and communicating important information, and adhering to safeguarding policies. The work is varied and depends on the child’s needs; competency-based training will be provided and updated to reflect the caseload. The role may require travel across counties and adapting to changes in the rota. You may work without direct supervision from senior nurses, with guidance available when needed.

The team is managed by the Team Lead and care coordinators who oversee care package coordination, shifts, problem-solving, clinical supervision, and direct guidance. The team collaborates with the child/young person and parent/carer to support developmentally appropriate activities and wellbeing.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care for children as required during shifts within complex care packages.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team and liaise with other professionals to support the child/family.
  • Observe, document, and hand over important information to aid communication and safeguarding adherence.
  • Undertake competency-based training bespoke to the team and caseload; continually update skills as needs evolve.
  • Operate with a degree of autonomy, knowing when to seek additional support from senior staff.
  • Travel across counties as part of the role and be adaptable to rota changes.
  • Collaborate with the management team to ensure holistic care and that the voice of the child is heard.
Qualifications
  • A qualification as a Nursery Nurse or equivalent is essential, demonstrating understanding of childhood development relevant to respite care.
  • Ability to learn and develop new skills; capable of engaging in developmentally appropriate play and stimulation.
  • Strong communication, trust, and teamwork to build rapport with families and the Complex Care team.
