An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Nurse Practitioner and Non-Medical Prescriber to join our Children and Young Peoples Autism Service in South Staffordshire.

We are seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and experienced Specialist Nurse Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting families and children either with a diagnosis of autism or that are currently on the assessment pathway.

You will be providing specialist nursing and Non-Medical Prescribing related care. This will include providing Autism assessments and appropriate specialist nursing interventions to children and young people with Autism within the Children and Families Care Group. You may be required to work in a variety of settings including community settings, for example clinics, schools and home environments. You will work directly with children and young people with Autism and their families, carrying out assessments (including risk management) and effective treatment and/or specialist interventions, with the aim of helping children and young people participate in daily family life and community activities and to facilitate positive outcomes of care in relation to children and young people's needs.

You will advocate for and lead on the delivery of a high standard of specialist nursing care to CYP referred to the team including physical health assessment, monitoring and intervention, and will lead on the agreed systems for the monitoring of effectiveness of care

Main duties of the job
  • Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team with children & young people and Families in the Children and Young People’s Autism Service.
  • Be responsible for the provision of their independent non-medical prescribing within the Autism Service and deliver the clinical requirements related to this role
  • To work across a health system collaboratively, especially with Mental Health and Learning Disability Service
  • Be a Specialist Nurse Practitioner and have detailed professional and clinical skills and experience in the assessment and management of children and young people within NICE guidance and best practice
  • Be responsible for a defined population of young people using the service.
  • Clinical Leadership of relevant service development, such as prescribing pathways and Physical Health monitoring.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental health or Learning Disability nurse
  • Post-registration experience, evidence of formal courses and training at diploma/degree level
  • Conforms to NMC requirements
  • Non-medical prescriber – independent and supplementary prescriber (V300 or equivalent) or willingness to undertake within the first 9 months
  • Practice assessor/supervisor or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership Qualification/ Qualification in providing supervision
  • Psychological intervention Qualification including EMDR, CBT, CBTP, Family Interventions, CAT, DBT
  • Registered nurse mentor/supervisor
  • Additional medication management/optimisation training
  • Training and experience in completing: ADOS, ADI-R and/or experience of contributing towards Autism assessments in children and young people
  • Post Graduate level training in Mental Health and/or Neurodevelopment needs and conditions
  • Principles of physical health qualification (or equivalent)
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
  • Evidence of extensive post registration experience working with children & young people with Autism
  • Experience of working with people who have difficulty in engaging with services and have complex mental health needs
  • Experience of working in community setting and making decisions autonomously
  • Experience of managing health needs related to medication optimisation
  • Experience of Independent or supplementary prescribing within the community
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of presenting at local/national level
  • Experience and ability to carry out clinical audit
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the NICE Guidelines in relation to Autism and CYP
  • Highly skilled in the principles of the Assessment, formulation and care planning for CYP with Autism
  • Skills of assessing, planning and evaluating care, for CYP with Autism or Mental Health needs in a highly sensitive manner
  • Highly skilled in the assessment of clinical risk and developing and communicating appropriate risk management plans
  • Highly skilled in independent non-medical prescribing within a ND or Mental Health Service and be able to deliver the clinical requirements related to this role
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of writing neurodevelopmental assessment reports
  • Experience of reviewing clinical documents to inform assessments
