University of St Andrew's, via Randstad Student Support, offers a specialist ASC mentoring role funded by the DSA. This hybrid position provides flexible hours and an attractive hourly rate of £28, plus £3.38 holiday pay, to support university students with Autism Spectrum Condition and related mental health needs.

Applicants must hold an Undergraduate Degree (Level 6 minimum), a recognised Teaching Qualification, and have extensive training in adult autism (DfE routes or equivalent).

Qualifications

• Undergraduate Degree (Level 6 minimum) and a recognised Teaching Qualification are required.
• Extensive Training in Adult Autism (DfE routes or equivalent) is required.
• Training options include National Autistic Society modules or Optimum Training Course focusing on Autism/ADHD in Higher Education.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one mentoring to university students, including those with ASC and other mental health challenges.
• Maintain professional conduct, punctuality, and confidentiality.
• Manage a caseload of students with organisation and care.
• Support student learning and identify strengths to aid academic success.

MANDATORY Specialist Role Requirements

This is a specialist, DSA-funded role, meaning all candidates must strictly adhere to the qualification framework set out by the Department for Education (DfE).

You MUST possess the following:

• Undergraduate Degree (Level 6 minimum).
• A recognised Teaching Qualification.
• Extensive Training in Adult Autism, which may include:
• Option 1: 6 National Autistic Society Modules (Non-Medical Helper package). The modules cover Understanding Autism, Communication, Sensory Experience, Stress and Anxiety, Supporting Families, and Autism and Girls.
• OR Option 2: The Optimum Training Course focusing on Autism and ADHD in Higher Education.
