positions available Are you a committed and highly skilled Level Specialist Teacher who wants to make a meaningful impact on the educational outcomes of children and young people with additional needs?
You will work in a range of schools across Wandsworth (primary and secondary), providing both whole school advice on best classroom practice and targeted intervention. You will be joining at an important time as national SEND reforms develop and Wandsworth strengthens its inclusive support for schools. The role will contribute directly to Wandsworth’s involvement in the Experts at Hand national programme, helping to translate specialist expertise into practical, sustainable support for mainstream settings.
Please note that not all Wandsworth schools have full accessibility, but we will endeavour to meet employee’s accessibility needs.
The Literacy and Numeracy Support Service has a long history within Wandsworth and is fully traded, with schools buying in our services. In addition, we provide central training for both literacy and numeracy and work with schools on a range of projects to support the development of inclusive practice and effective approaches. Currently, we have a resource base and meeting space at Swaffield School.
As part of the Experts at Hands national programme, the service will work alongside schools and wider partners to develop and share effective approaches that strengthen inclusive practice and build capacity across the local system.
We offer:
The team currently consists of nine specialist teachers, all with L/L (or higher) qualifications in SpLD. This includes the manager of the service. In addition to the in-school direct teaching, central training and project work, we also carry out one-off assessments and access arrangements. The team meets every fortnight and attendance at these staff meetings is essential for team cohesion and maintaining a consistent approach in the provision of our service.
You will work across a range of primary and secondary schools, supporting schools in the development of their assessment and provision for pupils with literacy needs. You may also work directly with pupils, including those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Many of these pupils will have co-occurring difficulties, and your role will be to help them access learning and improve attainment through tailored support.
Central to your role will be the provision of specialist teaching and advice to both school staff and parents, together with training to promote inclusive practices. In addition, you may complete needs-based assessments for literacy, which will inform the development of targeted interventions and provision planning. You will need to be reflective and flexible in your approach to ensure that interventions are well matched to the identified needs.
Through the Experts at Hand national programme, you will have opportunities to contribute to a nationally connected approach to inclusion, sharing specialist knowledge, supporting workforce development and helping schools embed evidence-informed practice for pupils with literacy needs.
