Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive, creative and highly skilled Specialist Forensic or Clinical Psychologist who is passionate about supporting children and young people in a secure setting. You will join our fantastic multi-disciplinary team at Millenium Lodge, Secure Children's Home, which will be the new site in 2027, for Lincolnshire Secure Children's Home currently rated Outstanding by both CQC and Ofsted.

The service sits within our Children's and Young Person's Complex Care Service Line, alongside the Harmful Behaviour Service and Complex Needs Service. Our New Secure Children's Home will provide care for up to 28 young people aged 10-18. Many of the young people we support have experienced significant adversity, including trauma, mental health challenges, neurodevelopmental difficulties and risk of harm to themselves or others.

You will work closely with our Highly Specialist Forensic Psychologist/Clinical Lead and a range of professionals to create a safe, containing environment and deliver interventions that help young people understand themselves, their mental health and their offending behaviour.

In this role you will have opportunities to lead on psychological formulations, deliver individual and group interventions, and contribute to staff training and policy development. You will be required to have at least 12-18 months post qualification experience.

Main duties of the job

You will work within the Heath Trust's and the HCPC's and the BPS's professional guidelines, as well as liaise and work closely with colleagues and professionals who work internal and external to the Trust and who provide services to children, young people and their carers and families.

You will provide complex clinical psychology assessments, formulations and a range of therapeutic interventions for young people resident at Millenium Lodge.

Work with Local Authority staff members to support them in working consistently with the young people and enabling staff to consider the dynamics of a young person's relationships to reduce escalating behaviours.

Support the provision of psychologically informed working across the healthcare and Local Authority teams by offering group and 1:1 clinical supervision and advice/consultation to the multidisciplinary team (including supervision of trainee psychologists).

Offer consultation and supervision as required to psychology and non-psychology colleagues across the organisation.

Develop, and deliver, training related to complex trauma to both healthcare and Local Authority staff members.

Use research skills to undertake research and audit activities and assist with projects aimed at developing the service further.

Use Outcome Measures which are used to evidence good practice and help adjust service delivery and developments which consider service user feedback and evaluation.

Job responsibilities

You will provide psychological assessments and interventions for young people, training and consultation for staff members, apply research skills and support the Lead Psychologist with service development. Working autonomously under the guidance of the Lead Psychologist, you will adhere to Health Trust, HCPC and BPS professional standards while collaborating closely with health colleagues, Local Authority staff members and wider professionals involved in supporting children, young people and their families.

The role includes leading on traumainformed approaches to care and contributing to multifactorial formulations, alongside supporting the delivery of a comprehensive rolling programme of evidencebased psychological therapies and mental health promotion that ensures inclusion and engagement. Psychological wellbeing will be further supported through education and specialist CAMHS provision, including interventions for sexually harmful behaviours and violent offending behaviours.

You will also work with all staff members to promote consistent practice, and guide reflective practice, to assist professionals to understand relational dynamics and reduce escalating behaviours among the young people.

Qualifications

Essential

• BPS accredited Honours degree in Psychology or equivalent
• A Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, accredited by the BPS and HCPC
• Additional specialist training related to working with children, young people and their families and carers
• Clinical supervision training for doctorate trainees
• Registered member of HCPC
• Eligible for chartered status as a clinical psychologist
• Other related academic qualifications to Masters or Doctorate level
• Additional training in assessment of and interventions for sexually harmful behaviours. E.g., AIMS 3 assessment and intervention; J-SOAP II; ERASOR
• Additional training in child neuropsychology assessments including autism assessments e.g., DISCO; ADI-R; ADOS; contributing to ADHD assessments
• Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
• Knowledge of relevant child protection, safeguarding, mental health and youth justice legislation and its implications for clinical practice when working with children, young people and their families/carers
• Evidence of continuing professional development as stated by HCPC and as recommended by the BPS
• Experience of being involved in a service development and its provision and maintenance
• Experience of line managing psychology staff and/or other professionals
• Record of having published in either peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books
• Demonstrate post qualification experience of working as a clinical psychologist with children and families where there are psychological concerns
• Demonstrate post qualification experience of working with children and young people from pre-school age to school leaving age
• Demonstrate post qualification experience of working with young people who are at risk of, or who have had contact with, the Youth Justice System
• Demonstrate post qualification experience of working with children and young people who are presenting with harmful sexual behaviour
• Demonstrate post qualification experience of working with children and young people with a range of disabilities and special needs from mild to extensive difficulties including learning difficulties; physical difficulties; chronic and acute health problems
• Demonstrate post qualification experience of working with children who have experienced abuse - physical, sexual, emotional
• Demonstrate post qualification experience of providing specialist clinical psychology assessments of children and young people, taking into account the context of their living situations which may include - living with biological parents; with separated parents; with other relatives; with foster carers; living in residential settings
• Demonstrate post qualification experience of using a range of specialist clinical psychology assessment skills which include:- oUse of psychometric assessments of intelligence, memory, reading, social functioning; executive functioning. oUse of behavioural assessments. oUse of observational methods of assessment. oAssessment by interviewing. oAssessment by analysis of archive material. oRisk assessments oAssessment of Harmful Sexual Behaviour
• Demonstrate post qualification experience of developing and providing specialist clinical psychology interventions and intervention packages for children, young people and their carers and families
