Job description
Job Summary

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious, dynamic individual to join our committed and well-integrated multidisciplinary team, providing high standard care to the local community. This will be a full-time, substantive post (>10 Programmed Activities).

The team at FGH have worked incredibly hard to develop high quality Stroke services and have been rightly proud to achieve and maintain a rating of "A" under the old Stroke Sentinel National Audit Programme (SSNAP) system. In doing so, the team at FGH have also developed strong links with regional teams as part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Stroke Network. Monitoring to support and further improve the service is carried out by means of Weekly Stroke Breach meetings, peer mortality reviews, monthly Stroke governance meetings and close adherence to the SSNAP criteria. Recent changes to the SSNAP scoring criteria have created a new challenge for the Team at FGH to improve even further in pursuit of regaining their "A" grade status, a rating which was regularly achieved under the previous SSNAP scoring metric.

Opportunity to become Clinical Lead for the Stroke is also available for interested candidates with the right experience.

Main duties of the job

Furness General Hospital provides an active acute thrombolysis service (with thrombectomy provided at Royal Preston Hospital) and also makes use of the specialist Telestroke On-Call Service out of hours and at weekends. There is an opportunity to join the general medicine On-Call Rota, Telestroke On-Call rota, or both.

The post supports continued development of the Stroke Service and you will work alongside three existing Stroke Consultants and one Stroke Nurse Consultant, as well as a wider Care of the Elderly Team and General Medicine colleagues. You will also liaise with Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery and Vascular Surgery Teams. You will also work very closely with nursing colleagues from the Nurse Consultant and Stroke Advanced Nurse Practitioners, to the Matrons, Ward Managers, Nurses, Therapists and Secretaries, to assist in providing excellent care to our patients at all stages of their hospital journey.

You will provide clinical leadership to a dedicated team and will at times be the senior Stroke Doctor on the rota.
