Job summary

A community healthcare provider in Barking is looking for a Band 6 Specialist Dietitian to join the All Age Eating Disorder Team on a fixed term basis for maternity cover. The ideal candidate will provide dietetic support to clients and families in a multidisciplinary setting, focusing on delivering high-quality service. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Work with the multidisciplinary team to assess and evaluate dietetic care.

An exciting opportunity for Band 6 Specialist Dietitian to join North East London NHS Foundation Trust All Age Eating Disorder Team : Maternity Cover, Fixed term 12 months.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary all age specialist Community Eating Disorder team . The successful applicant will support this innovative multidisciplinary team in delivering the latest evidence based dietetic support to clients , carers and families of adults and children and young people who access the services. The team is committed to delivering the highest quality service to enable service users live the life they want. This opportunity gives the successful candidate the chance to influence the success of this innovative Eating Disorder service

We are looking for applicants who have enthusiasm for working in specialist mental health services, who are adaptable; enjoy variety, can work independently as well as understanding the importance of team working. You will form part of our patient focused service, providing a high quality, accurate and timely service.

The All-Age Eating Disorder Service main hub is in Barking with the service covering the four North East London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge and Waltham Forest.

Main duties of the job
  1. To work with the multidisciplinary team in assessing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating a programme of dietetic care for service users with an eating disorder
  2. To manage a service user caseload with the support of the Multidisciplinary team
  3. To counsel, educate and review service users / carers who have been referred for dietary intervention and use appropriate language and education tools to meet the service user needs and requirements
  4. To ensure that dietary recommendations are communicated by utilizing the highest level of interpersonal skills to all members of the team and incorporated in the service users overall package of care.
  5. To provide dietetic support to the MDT and other Health professionals by maintaining effective and timely communication.
  6. To identify the need for development of relevant evidence based written information for service users and health care professionals and to review them at agreed intervals.
  7. To attend appropriate MDT meetings to provide expert advice to clinicians regarding the progression of nutrition support which is evidence based. This will involve nutritional assessment to include calculation of nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical condition and other physical parameters.
  8. To maintain and develop professional standards through ongoing continuing professional development, audit and evaluation in accordance with the Health and Care Professions Council Standards and Trust Policies and Procedures.

North East London NHS Foundation Trust All-Age Eating Disorders Service is based in Barking Essex. We have a strong focus on training and research and team members benefit from excellent training and CPD opportunities. We have well developed links with NHSE and access to up-to-date training within transformation therapies and Leadership.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High-Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436)

Qualifications
  • Degree / Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years post registration experience in Dietetics
  • Registered with Health & Care Profession Council (HCPC)
Experience
  • Evidence of Post Graduate training, PENG module or willingness to undertake
  • Behavioral Change and Motivational interviewing training or be willing to undertake
  • Relevant clinical experience in Adults and CAMHS Eating Disorders
Knowledge
  • Demonstrate evidence of up to date knowledge of nutrition and dietetics and its application to Adult and CAMHs eating disorders.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the service user group and mental health.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to service users, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist dietitian and assessment methodologies.
