Job description
Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - School Nursing

The post holder will work as a member of the School Health Team to deliver the Universal Child Health Promotion Programme, Healthy Child Healthy Future 2010 in a variety of settings for example school, clinic or home. The post holder will work in partnership with the school aged population, their families, educational staff and other agencies to assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care in schools and community settings to address identified health needs. He/she will work collaboratively with other disciplines to safeguard children in need and those in need of protection. The post holder will be a caseload holder for an identified cohort of schools. He/she will have a lead role in overseeing the daily operational duties of their designated caseload incorporating the supervisory role of public health staff nurses, and health care assistants (HCA).

Responsibilities
  • Management of a school nursing caseload as allocated by Team Leader.
  • Specifically the role will involve promoting the health and wellbeing of the school age population and their families so that they may be enabled to reach their full potential and not be disadvantaged through ill health or disability.
  • Maintain staff relationships and morale amongst the staff reporting to him/her ensuring effective team working.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Registered nurse or midwife on part 1 and/or 2 of the live NMC Register.
  • Possess Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) Degree/Diploma - School Nursing option (Part 3 of the NMC Live Register).
  • Experience of the use of IT systems and databases.
