Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust (WAST) within the Quality, Safety and Patient Experience Directorate, supporting service users across Wales to access the right care, treatment, and health information for urgent and emergency health needs. As part of our clinical leadership structure, you’ll play a pivotal role in the ongoing development and transformation of remote clinical care for patients assessed by our remote integrated care teams (NHS 111 / 999). You’ll work in partnership with internal colleagues and external partners across urgent, unscheduled, emergency, and primary care settings to develop and maintain high‑quality assessment strategies, guidelines, treatment pathways, and quality performance indicators. You’ll also contribute to education, research, clinical practice, and leadership activities that shape remote service delivery in line with national clinical careers frameworks.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and delivery of remote clinical care, providing strong professional clinical leadership to qualified and non‑qualified colleagues.
  • Plan and implement clinical practice changes to improve patient outcomes, progressing these through governance processes.
  • Monitor and assess clinical indicators, patient safety data, and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support and lead research, innovation, and improvement projects across the health and care sector in Wales.
  • Communicate highly complex and sensitive information with patients and clinicians, facilitating collaborative approaches for best outcomes.
  • Continue to work clinically for 10‑20% of your time while developing expertise in remote care and building networks across Wales.
  • Develop and deliver formal training and teaching packages to support remote assessment of patients.
  • Explore and implement new digital clinical systems and technologies, including AI and remote monitoring.
Qualifications
  • Professional registration (NMC or HCPC).
  • Competent clinical skills and knowledge across all areas of Remote Clinical Care practice.
  • Level 7 Education relevant to the area of practice.
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge and practical experience to conduct clinical consultation and/or examination relevant to Clinical practice.
  • Significant post‑registration experience in a range of Clinical settings.
  • Knowledge and application of research methodologies and clinical audit techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current professional Clinical issues and the national Remote Clinical care agenda.
Desirable Criteria
  • Management / Leadership qualification or possess equivalent skills and experience.
  • Experience in remote clinical practice (video, telephone, remote monitoring, virtual wards).
  • Experience in teaching multi‑professional staff.
  • Experience in staff management and professional development.
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable at level 1 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
Experience Essential Criteria
  • Experience providing clinical leadership, motivating, and supporting clinicians through change.
  • Experience in applying research methodologies and clinical audit techniques.
  • Proven track record of working collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in working in Remote Clinical telephone triage or advice line services.
