Job summary

Job Summary

We are seeking a Specialist Clinical Practitioner (Substance Misuse) to join the London Borough of Hackneys Children and Education Directorate supporting young people aged 625 living working or studying in Hackney and the City of London.

This post is funded by the Drug and Alcohol Treatment & Recovery Improvement Grant (DATRIG) until March 2026 with the possibility of extension.

The successful candidate will work as part of a specialist multi-disciplinary team providing direct clinical interventions and expert support to children young people and families affected by substance misuse mental health difficulties trauma and family conflict.

Key Duties / Accountabilities (Sample)
  • Provide highly specialised clinical interventions to children and families using evidence-based therapeutic approaches (CBT family therapy trauma-focused work psychodynamic and attachment-based therapies).
  • Undertake assessments and develop individual care and treatment plans in collaboration with young people families and partner professionals.
  • Support the wider Substance Misuse Team through consultation supervision and joint working to enhance service delivery and outcomes.
  • Work directly with young people to build resilience coping strategies and emotional regulation skills.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records and reports ensuring all practice meets safeguarding confidentiality and data protection standards.
  • Exercise professional autonomy and accountability escalating concerns and risks appropriately.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of interventions measuring impact through improved engagement and reduced repeat treatment episodes.
Skills / Experience
  • Demonstrable experience working with children and young people affected by substance misuse trauma and emotional / behavioural difficulties.
  • Skilled in delivering trauma-informed CBT and family-based therapeutic interventions.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures risk assessment and multi-agency working.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage young people families and professionals.
  • Commitment to anti-racist anti-discriminatory and inclusive practice.
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload and prioritise workload effectively.

  • Qualified Social Worker Psychologist Nurse or Therapist with HCPC or relevant professional registration.
