About The Role:
Days of Working: This position will be based at Boole Technology Centre, working mornings from 5:30am-7:45am.
As a Laboratory Cleaner, you will play a vital role in maintaining a highly controlled cleanroom environment that supports the manufacture of specialist pharmaceutical products used in cancer treatment. This is a specialist cleaning position where attention to detail, adherence to strict procedures and a commitment to contamination control are essential. Working within a sterile laboratory environment, you will be responsible for carrying out critical cleaning and decontamination activities that directly support product quality, patient safety and regulatory compliance. Due to the nature of the environment, you will be required to follow stringent gowning, hygiene and contamination control procedures at all times. This position offers comprehensive training and development, providing the opportunity to gain specialist cleanroom cleaning experience within a highly regulated pharmaceutical setting.
As part of your role, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Carry out specialist cleaning and sanitation duties within cleanroom and laboratory environments in accordance with site procedures and regulatory standards.
- Follow strict contamination control protocols to maintain sterile conditions and minimise environmental risks.
- Clean floors, walls, production areas, equipment surfaces and designated laboratory spaces using approved techniques and materials.
- Safely handle and use cleaning chemicals and disinfectants in accordance with COSHH requirements and site-specific procedures.
- Complete all cleaning documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Undertake daily gowning procedures before entering controlled areas, ensuring all requirements are followed correctly.
- Successfully complete gowning validation assessments and maintain required standards throughout employment.
- Report any hygiene, contamination, equipment or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Comply with all site health and safety, quality assurance and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.
- Participate in ongoing training, assessments and refresher programmes to maintain competency.
- Support colleagues and supervisors to ensure cleaning activities are completed to the required standard and within agreed timescales.
- Maintain professional standards of conduct, hygiene and presentation in line with cleanroom requirements.
Important Requirements
Due to the specialist nature of this environment, successful candidates must be willing and able to comply with strict cleanroom protocols, including:
- Following site hygiene and contamination control procedures before each shift.
- Wearing specialist cleanroom garments and personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
- Adhering to restrictions regarding cosmetics, fragrances, jewellery and other items that may compromise cleanroom integrity.
- Maintaining high personal hygiene standards in accordance with site requirements.
- Participating in gowning validation assessments and ongoing competency checks.
- Refraining from attending work if experiencing symptoms of illness or infection that could pose a contamination risk within the cleanroom environment.
- Successfully completing all mandatory training modules and competency assessments during the probationary period.
Please note that employment within this environment may be subject to occupational health clearance to ensure individuals can safely undertake the duties of the role and comply with the requirements of a highly controlled manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Right to Work in the UK and willingness to undergo a DBS check.
- Previous professional cleaning experience within a commercial, industrial, healthcare, pharmaceutical or similarly controlled environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed procedures consistently and accurately.
- Experience working to strict quality, hygiene or compliance standards.
- A strong understanding of the importance of contamination control and cleanliness.
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
- A reliable, professional and safety-focused approach to work.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Confidence completing paperwork, cleaning records and compliance documentation.
- Physical capability to undertake cleaning duties, including prolonged standing, bending, reaching and manual handling activities.
Desirable:
- Experience cleaning within pharmaceutical, laboratory, healthcare, medical manufacturing or cleanroom environments.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles.
- Experience working within highly regulated industries.
- Experience following contamination control or aseptic techniques.
- COSHH awareness and experience handling cleaning chemicals safely.
