Job summary

East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust seeks an Oncology Counsellor to provide specialist psychological interventions for cancer patients at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. The role involves assessing patients, planning up to six counselling sessions, and maintaining case notes within a supportive MDT environment.

You will liaise with the cancer team, deliver training to staff and students, and engage in research and audit activities to advance cancer counselling practices.

Qualifications

• Ability to assess patients and plan/implement a course of counselling (up to six sessions) to meet individual needs.
• Maintain client case notes and write letters following counselling sessions.
• Willingness to contribute to training and supervise/mentor other staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and plan/implement an appropriate specialist psychological intervention for cancer patients.
• Maintain associated records and write letters following sessions.
• Liaise with the wider multi-disciplinary team and provide specialist advice.
• Provide training to medical and non-medical staff and students.
• Participate in research and audit in cancer counselling.
• Use clinical supervision to facilitate work with patients.
