Overview

Specialist Biomedical Scientist
Department: Blood Sciences
Band 6 £38,682 - £46,580 Per annum
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

An opportunity has arisen within this busy Pathology service to join the Blood Science (Chemical Pathology) team. Do you have experience working as a Biomedical Scientist in a Chemistry Laboratory? Would you like to join a hardworking, caring and collaborative team?

You will work as part of a dedicated team of Biomedical Scientists within the Chemical Pathology department, delivering a high-quality, efficient and responsive diagnostic service.

Responsibilities
  • Performing and validating complex analytical investigations on blood and other biological materials, ensuring accuracy, reliability and timely reporting of results to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Maintaining competence across all analytical platforms, troubleshooting instrumentation, upholding quality assurance standards, and participating in internal and external quality schemes.
  • You will contribute to the training and supervision of junior staff, assist with method development and service improvement, and work flexibly as part of the 24/7 service to ensure continuity of patient care in accordance with Trust and national standards.
  • You will be part of a team of Biomedical Scientists delivering a diagnostic service analysing and reporting on blood, urine, faeces and other materials to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care, and effective resource management within the hospital.
  • You will undertake responsibilities within the Chemical Pathology department to meet all required national and Trust standards.
Working Relationships
  • To practice speciality within a managed environment.
  • To work both alone and as part of a departmental team.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Must hold honours degree in biomedical science.
  • Must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a practitioner in biomedical science.
Main Responsibilities
  • To operate in a professional manner in compliance with the professional codes of conduct (IBMS).
  • To organise daily duties in the provision of a quality service.
