Generative artificial intelligence (AI) describes algorithms that can be used to produce new content, including audio, code, images, text, simulations, and videos. It is developing all the time and is now being used as a support mechanism for all kinds of content‑based creations. The post holder will be part of a team providing a Haematology/BT service to the Trust. The team comprises Medical Laboratory Assistants, Biomedical Scientists, Clinical Scientists, clerical staff and Medical staff. The post holder will be expected to understand the need for analytical quality and clinical urgency, and take appropriate action when finding abnormal pathology results in order to maintain the highest standards of patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high quality, accurate test results for clinical investigations.
  • Take an active role in the training and development of staff within the department from MLA to Band 5 BMS.
  • Participate in a 24/7 shift system covering days, late shifts, weekends and Bank Holidays as required.
  • Cover for annual leave or sickness according to rota requirements.
  • Maintain a high workload of specimens, prioritising urgent work and ensuring timely results.
  • Co‑operate with other team members to support clinical investigations and patient care.
Qualifications
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • IBMS registration certificate.
  • Accredited BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
  • UK based laboratory experience.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and multi‑tasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work within a team processing a high workload of specimens.
Working pattern

The role is rota based. The contracted hours are 37.5 per week (full‑time equivalent) calculated over a 13‑week rota period. Depending on service needs, working hours may fluctuate within the contracted time.
