Job summary

Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) HCPC Registered with experience of Haematology and Blood Transfusion

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic HCPC registered specialist BMS with experience of working in Haematology and Transfusion, preferably within the NHS. Candidates should have completed their IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology with Transfusion Practice.

The post holder will be required to actively participate in the 24/7, 365 rota following completion of in‑house training and competency assessment. Applicants will need to possess good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Main duties of the job
  • Rotate through all sections of the Haematology laboratory – Routine Haematology, Coagulation, Morphology and Blood Transfusion.
  • Perform a variety of complex analytical procedures and handle hazardous chemical and biological materials safely.
  • Maintain focus and concentration for extended time periods to reliably complete investigations.
  • Contribute to future development of the Haematology service.
  • Operate automated track systems, including Sysmex analysers, and provide in‑house haemoglobinopathy and specialist haemostasis testing.
