A prominent healthcare organization in Scotland is seeking a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Haematology. The successful candidate will conduct specialist testing and analysis of results while ensuring compliance with UKAS standards. Applicants must have a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and a Specialist Diploma in Haematology. This role involves working with modern analytical equipment and rotating through various laboratories.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Haematology based at University Hospital Crosshouse.
The successful candidate will provide specialist testing services, including the analysis of results, using specialist equipment and manual testing methods. They will use professional judgement to assess quality control/technical failures therefore ensuring the consistent quality of patient results whilst complying with UKAS ISO 15189:2022 standards. In addition to performing specialist testing, the candidate will answer enquiries from clinical staff, give advice on tests and specimen types and give results and reference ranges whilst always following departmental guidelines and procedures. There is a robust departmental quality team which constantly strives to improve processes ensuring optimal performance and reliability of patient results. The department operates busy Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Immunology laboratories, which the successful candidate will rotate through as well as the satellite lab at University Hospital Ayr. The laboratory is well equipped with modern analytical equipment - Sysmex XN and Bio-Rad IH500 platforms on both hospital sites. We also have a small but modern automated Immunology section providing allergy and autoimmune testing. Computing throughout, is by Clinisys Winpath Enterprise system.

Applicants should possess a BSc Honours Degree in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent and also a Specialist Diploma in Haematology or experience working at specialist level. Your degree must be approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science/Health Professions Council, and applicants must contact the State Registration Unit, IBMS, 12 Coldbath Square, London, EC1R 5HL (Tel 020 7713 0214) to check that their degree is approved before submitting an application. Candidates who have not completed an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology (with Blood Transfusion) will be considered for a trainee Band 6 (AfC Annex 21 applies). On-the-job training will be given together with opportunity for further study up to MSc level.
