Please be aware of this when submitting your application.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, with relevant post-registration experience in Cellular Pathology.

Successful candidates may be required to deputise for Senior/ Lead Biomedical Scientists, taking the lead in the main laboratory sections; biopsy transfer/dissection, routine histopathology, immunohistochemistry and diagnostic cytopathology. In addition, we are about to integrate digital pathology into our existing workstreams.

Candidates should meet the full criteria of the Specialist BMS Band 6 Job Description and Person Specification. However, consideration will be given to an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist who has not yet completed the Specialist Portfolio, in either Cellular Pathology or Diagnostic Cytology, but will be expected to complete the specialist portfolio within a specified timeframe if successful (Band 6 Annex 21 will apply). The Annex 21 percentage applied would be 75% or 70% of the top of the relevant band, dependant on the individual previous experience.

Main duties of the job
  • Assist in the provision of a diagnostic service.
  • To understand, organise and perform competently a range of laboratory procedures, either singly or as part of a team, that equate to the training and qualifications of a HCPC registered BMS.
  • You will be required to attain proficiency in the relevant areas of Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion essential to support the provision of a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week Blood Science service.
  • You will be required to participate in the provision of the out of hour’s service either as a lone worker or as a team leader.
  • You will be required to deputise for Senior BMS staff in their absence and take lead responsibility for a specialist section of the department, as required.
