Job summary

The successful candidate will work within the paediatric department, manage laboratory processes, and participate in service development. Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen for Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Biochemistry team at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The core working hours are 9am-5:30pm Monday to Friday with an expectation to participate in the shift system.

Position

The position is for a Band 5/6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist; however consideration will be given to HCPC State registered Band 5 Biomedical Scientists who have not yet completed their specialist portfolio.

Responsibilities
  • Work within the busy paediatric Biochemistry department as part of a team across Pathology.
  • Support the Senior Biomedical Scientists responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the laboratory.
  • Prioritise work and re‑direct staff accordingly.
  • Validate analytical data prior to reporting, standardise, operate and maintain complex analytical equipment.
  • Regularly review internal quality control and external quality assurance data trends, taking action as appropriate.
  • Write and review standard operating procedures, and train all grades of staff.
  • Be directly involved in service development and modernisation.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience and suitable qualification as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist.
  • Well‑motivated, good communicator and enjoy working as part of a Pathology‑wide team.
  • Consideration will be given to candidates who have not completed the Specialist portfolio.
