Job description
Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic band 6 Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and dedicated Blood Sciences team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. NWLP operates as a hub and spoke model for the provision of pathology services, with Chelsea and Westminster operating as one of the spoke sites.

You will be working with new, state-of-the-art analysers including Abbott Alinity HQ Haematology analysers, Stago StarMax2 Haemostasis analysers, Alifax ESR Technology, and BioRad IH1000 Blood Grouping analyser.

Qualifications

Applications are sought from self-motivating individuals who are currently registered with the HCPC. You will possess post registration experience in a Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory with demonstrable morphology skills. Completion of the Specialist Certificate in Transfusion Science Practice and/or the IBMS Specialist Diploma will be essential. An MSc in a relevant subject will be desirable but not essential. You should also demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills in addition to possessing competent IT skills.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate effectively within the department to deliver a professional clinical laboratory service.
  • Perform core scientific and interpretive work in line with the qualifications of a Registered Healthcare Scientist.
  • Participate in appropriate training courses and continuous professional development (CPD) programs.
  • Supervise unqualified staff and deputise for section leaders as needed.
  • Provide specialist clinical technical services, including involvement in research and audit activities.
  • Delivery of comprehensive diagnostic services while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
