Job Summary

Adult Speech & Language therapist; Community, Sutton Health & Care, South West London. (Band 6) – 2 positions available.

The Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) team works across the Community Neuro & Adult SLT service, offering staff the opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team that truly supports each other and works together towards our vision of "Investing in our patient community, empowering them to live well".

We work holistically, towards patient‑led goals, providing rehabilitation and intervention to maximise our patients' potential. Our approach is patient‑centred, evidence‑based and supported by ongoing professional development.

About the Service

The Sutton Community Neuro and Adult Speech & Language Therapy service offers specialist, comprehensive assessment and intervention for adults with neurological conditions and acquired communication, speech, eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties. The service provides intervention in patients' homes, care homes and clinics, requiring staff to travel within the borough and work autonomously.

Key pathways include intervention for stroke survivors (including a Stroke Supported Discharge response) and other complex neuro conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease.

Person Specification
Essential
  • Relevant degree or postgraduate diploma in Speech Therapy
  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered
  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Competent to independently manage and appropriately treat clients with complex dysphagia needs
  • Demonstrated specialist post‑qualification experience with an adult caseload with dysphagia and communication needs
  • Experience (including as a B5 SALT) working with adults in a community setting
  • Experience in teaching/training and supporting other health professionals and colleagues
  • Videofluoroscopy experience
  • Able to demonstrate evidence‑based clinical practice and use of outcome measures
  • Effective written and spoken communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Basic computer skills
  • Flexibility and ability to cope with change
Desirable
  • Current driving licence
  • Access to a car for work purposes
  • Training in the Lee Silverman Voice Therapy approach
  • Audit experience
