Job summary

AXA XL is seeking a Specialist Actuary for Energy Liability in London. You will support the pricing team and underwriters, contributing to pricing views and quarterly business reviews. You will interact with underwriting and actuarial leadership to drive results.

The role requires significant non-life pricing experience, actuarial progress or qualification, and strong analytics skills in R, Excel, SQL, Python, and VBA. Collaboration and clear communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in non-life insurance pricing.
  • Degree in a mathematical, scientific or economics field.
  • Experience in a statistical or analytical role.
  • Qualified actuary or progressing toward accreditation.
  • Strong technical skills: R, Excel, SQL, Python, VBA.
  • Leadership and collaboration to build consensus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Support Energy Liability pricing and underwriting teams in London.
  • Maintain and improve pricing view of loss ratios.
  • Challenge pricing, Reserving and capital modelling as needed.
  • Drive pricing consistency across Energy Liability.
  • Ensure pricing process efficiency and guideline compliance.
  • Train underwriters in pricing and support deals.

Specialist Actuary - Energy Liability

In this role you will support the Energy Liability pricing team and the underwriters in London who write this business. You will have exposure to both the Underwriting and Actuarial leadership teams through individual account pricing, quarterly business review meetings and annual business planning.

What you’ll be doing

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Ensure AXA XL is a leader in the field of technical pricing and portfolio management.
  • Assist the Actuary leading the Energy Liability portfolio in London to maintain and improve the Pricing view of loss ratio for the portfolio.
  • Challenge Actuarial and UW leadership, Reserving and Capital modelling.
  • Drive appropriate consistency in pricing and portfolio analysis across Energy Liability.
  • Ensure efficiency of pricing processes, compliance with pricing guidelines and delivery of core tasks such as planning and core pricing metrics.
  • Training of underwriters in pricing matters and support pricing accounts, including portfolio deals.
  • Results and Metrics story telling in support of Finance Business Partners and Reserving.
  • Gathering local UW data and analytics needs and problems.
  • Leverage other AXA XL capabilities, e.g. Risk Consulting, IDA and Enterprise Business Data Solutions
  • Work with wider casualty team to complete tasks and assist development of junior team
What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Significant experience of non-life insurance pricing
  • Qualification level – A mathematical, scientific or economics-based degree
  • Relevant work experience in a statistical or analytical role
  • Qualified actuary or progress towards attaining actuarial accreditation
  • Compelling technical skills, particularly in R, Excel, SQL, Python, VBA etc.
  • Leadership skills to work collaboratively with colleagues to build consensus
  • Influential verbal communications skills to gain buy-in to communicate clearly and concisely with internal and external clients
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Can demonstrate a compelling ability to think strategically
