Specialised Cardiac Physiologist, Band 6

The closing date is 04 January 2026

The post holder will acquire and maintain a high level of professional competence in the performance of all tests, investigations and measurements carried out under the band 6 remit. They will be expected to interpret and act upon results of tests, investigations and measurements in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

The post holder will work in a multidisciplinary team that includes other cardiac physiologists, assistant cardiac practitioners, radiographers, consultants and medical staff, nursing staff and all other personnel either hospital or externally based.

The post holder will part in PCI and participate in the 24/7 PPCI on call rota as required.

The Trust provides an extensive follow‑up service for all devices and includes a well‑established remote follow‑up service. The remote service has been expanded and developed during the Covid‑19 pandemic. The successful candidate will be expected to rotate through both the Non‑invasive and the invasive sections of the department. They will be autonomous in a variety of diagnostic investigations and will be offered training to increase their skills and knowledge accordingly.

Job responsibilities
  • Acquire and maintain a high level of professional competence in the performance of all tests, investigations and measurements under the band 6 remit.
  • Interpret and act upon results of tests, investigations and measurements in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team of cardiac physiologists, assistant cardiac practitioners, radiographers, consultants and medical staff.
  • Partake in PCI and participate in the 24/7 PPCI on call rota.
  • Assist in stock control ensuring levels are maintained appropriately.
  • Provide and receive complex technical information and interpret results for the care of cardiology patients and act as a source of expert advice to patients, relatives and other healthcare professionals.
  • Work unsupervised, where experienced, and follow professional guidelines and protocols within the department.
  • Undertake training as necessary particularly in the field of pacing and devices.
  • Input data into computerised systems and maintain patient records to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain the pacemaker and ICD database, including audit data.
  • Develop systems for remote follow up of devices as required.
  • Ensure equipment is kept safe.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills
  • Appropriate previous experience at a Band 5 level
  • Previous experience of full range of diagnostic testing
  • Degree level or equivalent in related health care area
  • Able to partake on the 24/7 PPCI on call rota
  • RCCP registration or HCPC registration
  • Working towards professional qualifications
  • Autonomous in brady pacing implants
  • Exposure to complicated device implants/FU clinics
  • Experience of reporting remote monitoring
