Job summary

GSL Education are seeking a Children’s Support Worker to join a specialist school in Scarborough on a full-time basis. You will provide day-to-day support to pupils inside and outside the classroom, helping them feel safe, supported and engaged with school life.

The ideal candidate will have experience in care, support work, residential settings, youth work or education and be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. DBS check will be required.

Qualifications

• Experience in care, support, education, residential or youth work environments.
• Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with children.
• Calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations.
• Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to children and young people with additional needs.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils through patience, consistency and understanding.
• Supporting pupils with their emotional wellbeing, confidence and social development.
• Helping children manage challenging situations and develop positive coping strategies.
• Encouraging independence and supporting pupils to develop essential life skills.
• Supporting pupils to participate in learning, activities and wider school opportunities.
• Working closely with teachers, support staff and other professionals to provide consistent care and support.
• Responding calmly and appropriately to individual needs and changes in behaviour.
• Maintaining a safe, positive and inclusive environment for all pupils.
