Job summary

Station Tavern Cambridge is seeking a hands-on Sous Chef to lead kitchen operations, work with the Head Chef on menus, and mentor the brigade in a welcoming environment.

You’ll participate in our development programme, have access to masterclasses, and enjoy benefits such as staff meals, pension, and holiday allowances while helping to grow our local reputation.

Qualifications

• We are looking for a hands-on Sous Chef with leadership skills and a passion for fresh, quality food.
• Experience in leading a kitchen team and delivering high service standards.
• Strong communication and staff development abilities.
• Proven ability to plan menus, daily specials and control GP and labour costs.
• Excellent organisation and health & safety knowledge.
• Committed to training and mentoring junior chefs.

Responsibilities

• Lead kitchen operations as Sous Chef and assist Head Chef.
• Design and deliver menus and daily specials with creativity.
• Manage the kitchen rota, training, and food safety compliance.
• Coach and develop junior chefs, ensuring consistent quality.
• Monitor GP, labour costs, and stock levels with planning and discipline.
• Collaborate with front-of-house to drive sales and guest satisfaction.

What we look for in a Sous Chef:

We are looking for an existing Sous Chef or Senior CDP looking for their next step, who considers themselves as a natural leader with a passion and flare for producing quality fresh food in an environment that makes people feel welcome. As the successful Sous Chef you will:

• Have experience championing excellent service through quality food
• Demonstrate a passion for leading and developing a team
• Be an active hands-on Chef with excellent communication skills
• Be responsible and able to manage the kitchen staff rota, training and all health and safety effectively at all times
• Working alongside your Head Chef, you will be able to demonstrate your creativity and ability by helping to design and deliver new dishes for our menus and daily specials
• Demonstrate great planning and organisational skills, necessary to maintain effective controls with regard to both GP and labour
• Have a pro-active approach to driving sales and delivering growth, through engagement with both kitchen and front of house teams
