Overview

Contract: 7 day 12 hours, Fixed term contract (7th July 2025 – 31st May 2026)

Salary – Band 7 inc. HCAS and £5,000 short term RRP (pro‑rata reviewed annually).

We have a fixed term vacancy position in the Ultrasound Service based at Mile End Community Diagnostic Centre. This service is responsible for covering a wide range of subspecialties (non‑obstetrics) such as General Abdomen, Gynaecology, MSK, small parts and head and neck. Other specialties such as Paediatrics, Obstetrics, and Fertility through potential rotation to other sites.

This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and adaptive Sonographers to join our team on a fixed term contract providing a 7‑day service with 12‑hour days, working 8am – 8pm shift pattern on a rolling rota to meet service demand.

Our CDC Practice Educator Sonographer will support your development and training opportunities in collaboration with NEL Ultrasound training and Education academy based at Whipps Cross Hospital (subject to funding). Novel ways of working and role expansion to develop enhanced and advanced clinical pathways are supported and encouraged. CASE accredited medical ultrasound qualifications and NHS working as a Sonographer is essential.

Responsibilities

The post‑holder will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team in Imaging, liaising with those involved to ensure appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. They will maintain a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound imaging at the newly established Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Mile End Hospital which will be a 7‑day service with 12‑hour days, non‑obstetric service. There will also be the potential to rotate through The Royal London Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Our Sonographers undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to Ultrasound guidelines such as those published by BMUS, RCOG, RCR and NICE. The post‑holder will work within departmental protocols as a practitioner in the delivery of all ultrasound imaging, reporting and management of the patient.

The post‑holder will also liaise with key Lead Nurses, Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the Women’s Health Division, as well as the Radiologists in the General Ultrasound Department. In the absence of a Lead Sonographer, the post‑holder will oversee the day‑to‑day workload to ensure staff and resources are allocated to the area and managed effectively.

The post holder will promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals together with outside agencies regarding patient care and progress.
