Job summary

Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield is seeking a Bank Sonographer to join the Imaging team. You will provide diagnostic ultrasound services on an as-and-when-required basis, covering shifts as needed and delivering high-quality patient care.

The role requires autonomous practice, independent reporting, and experience with abdominal, renal, gynecology exams. Competitive hourly rate up to £45 varies with experience.

Qualifications

• DMU or PgCert/PgDip in medical ultrasound is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide a consistent, high quality ultrasound service to all patients.
• Carry out diagnostic ultrasound scans within scope of competence.
• Assist in planning and maintaining department workflow.
• Complete departmental records including patient charges in a timely manner.
• Participate in QA tests and in supervision and peer review.
• Report equipment faults and ensure safe operation of the imaging equipment.
• Comply with department policies, protocols and mandatory training.

We have an opportunity for a Sonographer to join their team of staff in the Imaging department.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties Of This Role Include

• You actively participate in the efficient and safe operation of the Imaging Department, providing a consistent, high quality ultrasound service to all patients.
• You carry out diagnostic ultrasound scans within your scope of competence as agreed with the Clinical Services Manager - Imaging / Clinical Lead to high technical and quality standards.
• You assist clinical modality leads to plan and maintain an effective workflow within the department, as requested.
• You complete and maintain applicable departmental records including the completion and submission of patient charges in a timely manner.
• You participate in, and contribute to, Quality Assurance tests within the Imaging Department.
• You participate in supervision, training and peer review within your area of competence / expertise.
• You report all equipment malfunctions or faults to the manager and, if necessary, undertake any further action to ensure the safe operation of the equipment.
• You comply with the imaging department policies, protocols and SOPs.
• You comply with all relevant mandatory training.

Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria

• Experience of autonomous practice and independent reporting is essential.
• Experience of customer care, including interacting with challenging customers and situations.
• A Diploma in medical ultrasound (DMU) or Post-graduate certificate or diploma (Pg Cert / Dip).
• Competency to assess, scan, diagnose and report ultrasound caseload, maintaining accurate patient records at all times.
• Demonstratable understanding of the requirements of safe clinical practice and the responsibilities and accountability that are associated with this role.
• Understanding of the importance of Health & Safety regulations; maintaining good ergonomics and posture when scanning to reduce the risks associated with repetitive strain injury (RSI).
• Experience in performing/reporting the following sonographic examinations: Abdominal, Renal, Gynaecology, (Transvaginal, Transabdominal)
