Job summary

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Band 7 Sonographer to join our ultrasound team. You will independently perform and report obstetric, gynecological, abdominal and small parts exams across hospital and community settings, delivering patient‑centred care.

Qualifications

  • PgD/MSc in Medical Ultrasound or Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (Obstetrics, Gynaecology +/- general ultrasound).
  • Current state registration certificate (HCPC, NMC) is required.
  • Portfolio evidence must be provided.
  • Willingness to travel to Fareham, Gosport and Petersfield community sites.
  • Nuchal Translucency accredited (Fetal Medicine Foundation & DQASS).

  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across hospital and community settings.

About The Role

As a Band 7 Sonographer, you will work as an autonomous practitioner, independently performing and reporting a broad range of ultrasound examinations. You will have the opportunity to utilise your advanced clinical skills to support patient diagnosis, treatment planning, and management across a variety of clinical pathways.

Key Responsibility’s:
  • Independently perform and report obstetric, gynaecological, abdominal and small parts ultrasound examinations.
  • Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care across hospital and community settings.
  • Provide specialist advice to clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in service improvement, audit, and evaluation of new equipment.
  • Support the training and development of future sonographers and healthcare professionals.
Qualifications

Essential

  • PgD/MSc in Medical Ultrasound or Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (Obstetrics, Gynaecology +/- general ultrasound)
  • Hold a current state registration certificate (HCPC, NMC)
  • Have portfolio evidence.
  • Ability to travel to and work in our community sites located in Fareham, Gosport and Petersfield.
  • Sonographer Experience in a NHS setting.
  • Nuchal Translucency accredited (Fetal Medicine Foundation & DQASS)

Desirable

  • MSK
  • Small parts (Testes/Thyroid etc.)
  • Paediatrics
Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a sonographer in an NHS Trust.

Desirable

  • Post graduate radiography/midwifery experience.
