We have an exciting opportunity for a Sonographer at North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust to join the Ultrasound Department at the University Hospital of North Tees. You will be responsible for delivering a high standard of patient‑centred care while providing a comprehensive ultrasound service across a wide range of examinations, including Obstetric, Gynaecological, Abdominal, DVT, Musculoskeletal (MSK), Carotid, Head & Neck, and Small Parts imaging. You will perform ultrasound examinations independently, producing accurate diagnostic reports to support clinical decision-making and patient management. The role also involves communicating scan findings sensitively and professionally, including delivering complex or distressing information when appropriate, particularly in Obstetric cases. You will always prioritise patient safety and wellbeing by adapting imaging techniques to meet individual clinical needs, while ensuring all ultrasound referrals are appropriately vetted, justified, prioritised, and clarified in line with departmental protocols and national standard.
As a Sonographer, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate examination records and managing imaging data through Radiology systems, including CRIS and PACS, while ensuring strict adherence to confidentiality and GDPR requirements. You will support the delivery of ultrasound services across Stockton, Hartlepool and Peterlee sites, including participation in weekend and extended day working where required. You will provide clinical education, supervision and knowledge‑sharing to student sonographers, midwives, radiographers and medical trainees, while supporting the development of junior team members and contributing to an effective learning environment. You will act as a professional role model within the department, promoting teamwork, accountability and a positive multidisciplinary approach. You will manage and report incidents, equipment faults and service issues in accordance with Trust procedures, while ensuring ultrasound equipment and departmental resources are used effectively. You will also contribute to audit, research and continuing professional development activities, maintain effective communication across Radiology and wider clinical teams, and support compliance with infection control, health and safety, equality and diversity.
