Job summary

Elexon is seeking a Solution Architect (Grade 11) to join the Architecture team in London. You’ll work with senior stakeholders and cross‑functional product teams to deliver high‑profile digital initiatives and translate business needs into scalable, secure technical solutions.

You’ll shape cloud‑based solutions on Microsoft Azure, provide architectural leadership to engineering and system integrator teams, and ensure designs align with Elexon’s architecture principles across the full product

Job description

We’re looking for a Solution Architect (Grade 11) to join our Architecture team at Elexon.

In this role, you’ll work closely with senior stakeholders and cross-functional product teams to deliver high-profile digital initiatives, translating business requirements into scalable, secure and practical technical solutions.

You’ll help shape advanced cloud-based solutions using Microsoft Azure and modern architecture patterns, while providing architectural leadership to engineering and system integrator teams. A key part of the role will be ensuring designs delivered by internal teams and external vendors align with Elexon’s architecture principles, standards and long-term technology direction.

What you’ll do:

• Create design-driven technical solutions that balance business requirements with architectural and technology considerations.
• Create and maintain solution architecture documentation and deliverables for settlement systems.
• Translate business requirements into clear, practical technical designs.
• Provide architectural direction to engineering teams and support adherence to agreed designs.
• Review solution and design documentation produced by external vendors and system integrators.
• Ensure proposed solutions align with Elexon’s enterprise architecture and design principles.
• Work across Microsoft Azure, cloud and hosted technologies when designing solutions.
• Understand data structures and governance requirements and develop appropriate data models and flows.
• Communicate data and technical designs clearly to internal teams and external vendors.
• Carry out impact assessments for proposed changes, considering architectural principles and design standards.
• Work closely with Enterprise, Solution and Data Architects, Product Owners, Business Analysts and Test Analysts.
• Support solutions throughout the full product and project lifecycle, from inception through delivery, operations, support and eventual decommissioning.
• Contribute to architecture governance and ensure solutions remain scalable, reliable and secure.

What you’ll bring:

• Strong experience developing and delivering solutions using Microsoft Azure and supporting cloud technologies.
• Experience working as a Solution Architect, Solution Designer or in a comparable technical architecture role.
• Strong understanding of cloud and hosted infrastructure concepts.
• Experience translating complex business requirements into clear technical solutions.
• Experience working in fast-paced Agile environments.
• Experience working with system integrators and external technology vendors, including teams operating across different organisations and geographies.
• Experience reviewing vendor solution and design documentation against architecture principles and standards.
• Proficiency using Enterprise Architecture tools and modelling languages such as UML and ArchiMate.
• Experience using Azure DevOps or equivalent issue and project management tooling.
• Strong understanding of data structures, data flows and governance considerations.
• Experience working across the full product or project lifecycle.
• Excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical designs to a range of stakeholders.
• A proactive approach with the ability to take ownership, manage changing priorities and deliver at pace.

It would also be beneficial if you have:

• A technical background in areas such as solution design, software development or data architecture.
• Experience developing or leveraging AI solutions, including Machine Learning, Generative AI or Agentic AI.
• Knowledge of electricity settlement arrangements, systems, processes and governance.
• A TOGAF or BCS Practitioner Certificate in Enterprise and Solution Architecture, equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
