Job summary

Vodafone is seeking an experienced architect for web applications and CMS domains in a hybrid London/UK role. You will guide architecture roadmaps, oversee upgrades, and ensure performance, security and operability while collaborating across delivery teams.

You will lead governance presentations, ensure sign-off, and coach engineers to build scalable, enterprise-grade solutions with RESTful APIs and modern web infrastructure. This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on architectural work.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of web technologies (HTTP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS).
  • Experience designing and integrating enterprise-scale CMS architectures.
  • Understanding of SOLID object-oriented design principles.
  • Experience designing architecture for enterprise-scale web apps (microservices and micro frontends).
  • Experience with cloud solutions and containerised web app design.
  • Good understanding of OWASP Top 10 and protections.
  • Deep knowledge of web infrastructure (CDNs, WAFs, DNS, SSL/TLS).
  • Hands-on experience designing, consuming and governing RESTful APIs.

Responsibilities

  • Establish an architecture roadmap for the next few years.
  • Steer planned upgrades, capacity uplifts, system rationalisation and decommissioning.
  • Lead architectural assurance activities across the delivery lifecycle.
  • Review designs, present at governance forums, secure sign-off.
  • Ensure systems meet business SLAs, performance goals and security guidelines.
  • Ensure non-functional requirements including performance, resilience and operability are met.
  • Act as technical and functional point of contact for web apps and CMS domains.
  • Support major releases and incidents.
  • Provide direction to solution architects and developers.
  • Support cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software.
  • Build trust within teams and empower them to be autonomous.
  • Take an active role in Architecture and Web Development Guilds.
  • Share best practices and coach colleagues.

Salary: £49,000 - 89,000 per year

Requirements
  • Understanding of the fundamental elements of web technologies such as HTTP, HTML, JavaScript and CSS
  • Demonstrable experience designing and integrating enterprise-scale CMS architectures
  • Understanding of SOLID object-oriented design principles and the ability to apply them to application solution design
  • Experience designing technology and application architecture for enterprise-scale web applications, including microservices and micro frontends
  • Experience with cloud solutions and containerised web application design
  • Good understanding of the OWASP Top 10 and common patterns used to protect against those vulnerabilities
