Job description
Solutions Architect

Term: 6 months
Rate: £700 per day
Location: Central London

This logistics business, based in central London, has undertaken a significant change and transformation programme, the outcome of which is a new multi‑SAAS platform that will underpins the future state of the architecture.

As part of this programme we are looking for a Solution Architect to contribute to shaping the future‑state architecture that enables the organisation to meet its strategic business goals. This role ensures that technology solutions directly support desired business outcomes – such as improved efficiency, customer experience, scalability, and innovation – while maintaining strong architectural integrity. The Solution Architect oversees the design of systems and applications across the enterprise and regularly reviews the application portfolio to maximise value, reduce complexity, and ensure agility.

A complex business environment, you will work closely with senior architecture leadership to translate strategic business objectives into scalable, future‑ready architectural solutions. You'll partner with business and product leaders to ensure technology decisions enhance business capability, value delivery, and time‑to‑market while identifying technology enablers for business innovation, operational excellence, and digital transformation.

When providing architectural oversight on key projects you'll ensure solutions are well‑designed, secure, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise strategy. In addition you'll champion standardisation and reuse across the solution landscape to reduce redundancy and increase agility.

With a pragmatic approach to architecture governance and best practice, you'll contribute to defining and enforcing architectural principles, technology standards, and design patterns that balance innovation with operational integrity. You'll lead architectural governance forums to review and approve solution designs and ensure architectural consistency across the enterprise.

Collaboration with the business is at the heart of your day‑to‑day, acting as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring architectural solutions are practical, understandable, and outcome‑driven.

To be considered for this contract you'll need to demonstrate the following:

  • Multiple years experience in solution architecture, design, or technical leadership roles, with a track record of delivering business‑focused technology solutions.
  • Experience of working within logistics, heavy industry or businesses with significant physical assets (e.g. freight, oil & gas, shipping, aviation, engineering etc).
  • Strong experience aligning technology strategies with business objectives in complex, multi‑system environments.
  • Expertise in SAAS, integration design, and scalable architectures (e.g., microservices, APIs, event‑driven models).
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and explain complex architectural concepts in business‑relevant terms.
  • Deep understanding of application lifecycle, broad understanding of cloud platforms (this is not a cloud architecture position), and modern delivery models (Agile, DevOps).
  • Experience in enterprise application portfolio management or rationalisation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks (TOGAF, ArchiMate) and modelling tools and most importantly knowing when and how to deploy them.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., cloud architecture, enterprise architecture).
