Job summary

Markel Law is seeking a Solicitor in Employment Law to advise clients on contentious and non-contentious matters. You’ll handle tribunal proceedings, draft settlements and contracts, and contribute to HR-related guidance for a diverse client base.

The role blends high-quality work with a collaborative team culture in a hybrid Manchester setting. The ideal candidate has extensive employment law experience, strong drafting skills, and a client-focused approach within a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Experience in undertaking both contentious and non-contentious work.
  • Good IT skills across Microsoft, Word, Outlook etc.
  • Excellent data entry skills and attention to detail/accuracy.
  • Excellent customer care skills.
  • Be commercially aware at all times.
  • Have an analytical and problem–solving approach to advice.
  • Ability to gain and retain client confidence.
  • Sound working knowledge of electronic research facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct proceedings in Employment Tribunal on behalf of insured or private clients; review papers; draft claims or responses and EAT applications/responses.
  • Comply with all case management instructions; briefing Counsel; attending hearings where appropriate.
  • Provide opinions on prospects and advise on general HR issues and disputes before proceedings.
  • Review, advise upon, and draft employment documents such as settlement agreements and contracts of employment.
  • Assist with more complex projects like collective consultation and TUPE; disseminate updates and training to clients and colleagues.
  • Keep accurate records and time entries; invoice clients as necessary.
