Job description
Solicitor/Associate - Court of Protection

Department: Health, Care and Public Law - Bristol

Employment Type: Permanent

Location: Bristol

Description

DACB's Health, Care and Public Law Team provides legal advice and training to a very wide range of organisations operating in the health and social care sector, including NHS Trusts, independent sector providers, charities, commissioners and investors.

The team is highly rated in Legal 500 and Chambers and recognised as a “very broad range of specialists and all, without exception, first class experts and great to work with”.

We currently have an opportunity for a solicitor to join our team to undertake regulatory and advisory work with a particular focus on the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Court of Protection.

The Team plays an important role in DACB's broader Health practice, which is widely recognised as the leading strategic, commercial and regulatory legal adviser to the health and social care sector in the UK.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle a varied and interesting workload with an appropriate level of supervision.
  • Act as a lead point of contact for clients, demonstrating a level of knowledge and skill commensurate with experience.
  • Communicate effectively with a broad range of people including clients, courts and other stakeholders.
  • Support marketing and business development activity within the team e.g. attending marketing events and client training.
  • Build an awareness of the Firm's other services and development of effective internal and external networks.
  • Handle confidential information in line with the firm's data security protocols.
  • Exercise full compliance with DAC Beachcroft protocols on billing and credit control and demonstrate a high level of financial management in respect of own files.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

A qualified solicitor or barrister with previous experience in this practice area or related practice area. Experience of advising clients on Court of Protection matters and the relevant legal frameworks governing care and treatment is essential. We do not expect candidates to cover the full breadth of work undertaken by the team but we do require a clear interest in this area and enthusiasm to develop skills and knowledge relevant to the work we do.

  • Advocacy experience is an advantage (but not essential as training can be provided in this area)
  • Excellent relationship and client handling skills. Able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day issues.
  • Highly motivated, sharing our commitment to providing excellent service to our clients across a range of complex legal issues.
  • An ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than an ‘academic’ approach to legal issues.
  • Team oriented with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team.

This is an opportunity for someone looking to join a successful and expanding team in an exciting and developing sector, within a firm with an excellent reputation in the Health and Public sectors nationally and as a great place to work.
