Solicitor needed in Manchester, £25.31ph PAYE – Reference : 000A 184C / 1

To provide a high quality, efficient and effective legal service to the Chief Constable, Chief Officers and the Force to minimise exposure to criticism and legal claims, commensurate with the individuals level of skills and legal experience, seeking further legal guidance and assistance when necessary.

To engage and instruct panel solicitors, counsel and other professional advisors, consultants and experts, where necessary and to monitor the service provided.

To ensure that both in-house and external services are provided in a cost effective manner representing quality and best value for money and that costs are recovered wherever possible.

To ensure that the force complies with all legislation including in particular that relating to Health and Safety, Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Discrimination legislation.

To assist with the provision of a proactive legal service that anticipates implications for the Force of changes in legislation and case law, identifying the need for new policies and procedures and generating timely and appropriate advice and guidance.

To take the lead / advise on and assist in the preparation of all new Force policies, procedures and guidance documents, both internal and with partner agencies.

To identify and to consider those cases which by their nature, seriousness, complexity or sensitivity need special handling and to provide advice as necessary.

To undertake the training of members of the Force and partner agencies in legal matters as necessary.

This is a Full time role on atemporary contract basis.
