Job summary

Sustainable Building Services (SBS) is seeking a Solar PV Technical Manager to lead the technical delivery of Solar PV projects and support the growth of the renewable energy division. Reporting to the Clean Heat Operations Manager, you will ensure safe, efficient installations and high-quality standards across our UK projects.

Based in Skelmersdale with site travel, you will guide installation teams and subcontractors, manage key stakeholders, and ensure compliance with MCS and PAS standards

Qualifications

• Fully qualified Electrician with NVQ Level 3, AM2 and 18th Edition.
• Solar PV Battery qualification and EESS qualification are required.
• Full UK Driving Licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of end-to-end Solar PV and Battery Storage installations.
• Act as main technical contact for customers during delivery.
• Lead and manage installation teams and subcontractors.
• Coordinate project programmes with internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage procurement and supplier relationships.
• Attend site during key installation phases and oversee commissioning.
• Ensure compliance with MCS and Health & Safety requirements.
• Produce technical handover documentation.
• Act as the designated MCS Technical Person.

Solar PV Technical Manager

We take responsibility for every stage of the retrofit journey, delivering compliant, high‑quality solutions to PAS 2030, PAS 2035 and MCS standards. We’re looking for an experienced Solar PV Technical Manager to lead the technical delivery of our Solar PV projects and help support the continued growth of our renewable energy division. Reporting to the Clean Heat Operations Manager, you’ll provide technical leadership across our Solar PV projects, ensuring installations are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. You’ll work closely with project teams, installation engineers, customers and supply chain partners to deliver outstanding results while maintaining full compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the end-to-end installation process for Solar PV and Battery Storage projects.

• Lead and manage employed installation teams and specialist subcontractors.
• Coordinate project programmes with internal departments and external stakeholders.
• Manage material procurement and supplier relationships.
• Attend site during key installation phases and oversee commissioning.
• Ensure full compliance with MCS requirements and Health & Safety legislation.
• Produce technical handover documentation.
• Act as Sustainable Building Services’ designated MCS Technical Person.

Essential Qualifications

• Fully qualified Electrician (NVQ Level 3, AM2 and 18th Edition)
• Solar PV Battery qualification
• Level 3 Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS) qualification (or equivalent)
• Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable

• Testing & Inspection qualification (City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent).

Skills & Experience

• Strong technical knowledge of Solar PV and Battery Storage systems.
• Excellent organisational, leadership and communication skills.
• At least three years’ experience within the electrical industry.
• A minimum of two years’ experience delivering domestic Solar PV installations.
• Proven project and team management experience.
• Experience with DNO applications, commissioning and MCS compliance.

Salary

Circa £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience) + £5,500 Car Allowance or Company Car

Working Hours

Monday to Thursday, 8:30am - 5:00pm | Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm (1-hour lunch)
