Job summary

Barlowe LLP in London invites penultimate-year computer science students for a 12-week summer internship within our technology teams. The ideal candidate is studying CS with a 2:1 or above, graduating in 2028, and has experience in C#, Java or C++.

The role

We are looking for exceptional students to join us for a 12-week summer internship within our world-class technology teams. These functions are central to our engineering efforts. As an intern you will work across a range of platforms that support our quantitative research. You will contribute to the development, enhancement and modernisation of the systems that underpin our business, gaining valuable experience with both legacy and cutting-edge technologies. This is a hands‑on engineering role where you will write production-level code, collaborate with experienced software engineers and contribute to high‑impact projects from day one.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

• Designing and delivering high‑quality, maintainable code to work with large and complex datasets
• Supporting and evolving production platforms and research tools
• Partnering with quantitative researchers to understand and improve data quality and value
• Developing and optimising database queries and the underlying infrastructure
• Enhancing internal tools and data processing pipelines used at scale

As part of your internship, you will receive a structured onboarding experience and be paired with a dedicated mentor. Your mentor will be an experienced engineer who will guide your learning and development. In addition to on‑the‑job training, you will gain access to internal technical and professional development courses, alongside opportunities to increase your financial domain knowledge.

Who are we looking for?

We’re seeking sharp, curious and pragmatic software engineers who are eager to work at the intersection of finance and technology.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Studying towards a 2:1 or above in Computer Science or a closely related discipline
• Graduating in 2028 and currently in their penultimate year
• Experience in at least one object‑oriented programming language, such as C#, Java or C++
• Strong understanding of core computer science concepts, such as algorithms, data structures and systems architecture
• An interest in how engineering supports quantitative research and complex systems at scale
• A structured, analytical approach to problem‑solving with sound judgement
• A proactive approach to improving code, systems and ways of working
• Clear communicate skills across technical and non‑technical teams
• A collaborative mindset with a willingness to share ideas, feedback and knowledge
