Job summary

MBDA in Stevenage is offering a 10-week placement for undergraduates in Software Engineering or related fields. You will work on a range of software—from embedded to front-end—using C and C++ on Windows and Linux, with exposure to DevOps and software lifecycle practices.

The role provides development opportunities and a potential graduate path on successful completion. You'll be working on-site with dynamic workload, and BPSS security checks apply after offer.

The Software team at MBDA deliver software for the next generation of weapons in an ever evolving environment -to support those on the battlefield.

Our teams provide a range of products from high integrity software running on our weapon systems, to mission planning solutions integrated into a complex battlespace arena. We use numerous programming languages, software tools and software lifecycle methodologies to achieve this.

• Salary: £24,460 (pro-rata)
• Dynamic working: 4-5 days per week on-site due to workload classification
• Security clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The Opportunity

The Software team at MBDA (Stevenage) deliver software for the next generation of weapons in an ever evolving environment to support those on the battlefield! Our teams provide a range of products from high integrity software running on our munitions, weapon systems, software infrastructures (i.e. DevOps) and Simulation Software to support the business. We use a variety of programming languages, software tools and software lifecycle methodologies to achieve this.

You will get exposure to some aspects of a software development lifecycle and develop some of the skills necessary to become a well-rounded software engineer.

• The opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of development stages within our weapons systems or research projects: Including both embedded and front end software development on a range of platforms, such as Windows and Linux, utilising primarily C, C++ with potential for ADA and some scope for C# and Python dependant on the specific group and team.
• Learn about the functional and technical robustness of project deliverables.
• The importance of technical documentation.
• Work with other departments within the company, learning a general overview of the business.

What We're Looking For From You

Training and Development

You’ll be able to choose between a variety of online learning platforms such as Percipio, YouLearn, Career Builder and Video Gateway. Each one is tailored to a specific type of learning. Speak to your line manager to find out more.

We encourage new learning and will provide up to £150 in financial support per year if you wish to participate in further study in your own time. You’ll have access to our Learning Gateway, which hosts the formal course catalogue and is where you can select the right training for your role and future development. Dynamic Working

The way we work is changing and your schedule will reflect that. For non-executive employees, we have a flexi-time scheme that allows you to choose, within certain parameters, when you start and finish each day and how you can use time you have accrued. If you have worked the time, you are also able to accrue and take up to 15 days of Flexi-leave per annum, in addition to the 25 days of annual leave provided and bank holidays.

Security Clearance

All employees at MBDA are required to hold UK Security or BPSS Clearance.
