Job description

We are looking for Software Engineers to join the Attractions Connectivity team and help deliver the technical foundations needed to scale our Attractions business.

The team builds and operates the services that connect Booking.com to third‑party attraction providers. These capabilities support the ingestion of product and availability data, partner communication, reservations, webhooks, and the translation of provider‑specific data into models used across Booking.com.

You will work on the connectivity estate, helping us make partner integrations faster to build, safer to operate, and easier to scale. This is a hands‑on role for an engineer who enjoys working across software delivery, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and production operations.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and operate cloud‑native backend services that integrate with external partners and support high‑quality Attractions experiences.
  • Own work end to end: clarify requirements, evaluate technical options, implement and test solutions, deploy them safely, and learn from their behaviour in production.
  • Contribute to the foundations of Booking.com’s long‑term Attractions Connectivity solution, including reusable capabilities for partner integrations, data ingestion, transformation, and reliable communication.
  • Develop and maintain services running on AWS and Kubernetes, using event‑driven patterns and Kafka where appropriate.
  • Design for resilience, scalability, observability, security, and operational simplicity.
  • Use logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerts to diagnose issues and improve service health.
  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, data specialists, and partner‑facing colleagues to deliver customer and business value incrementally.
  • Contribute to technical design documents, code reviews, testing strategy, and continuous improvements to the team’s engineering practices.
What We’re Looking For
  • Professional experience building and operating production software systems.
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions, explain trade‑offs clearly, and deliver independently within a team.
  • Strong backend engineering experience, ideally with Java and Spring or Spring Boot.
  • Practical experience with AWS and cloud‑native service development.
  • Experience deploying or operating services on Kubernetes or a comparable container platform.
  • Understanding of Kafka or other event‑streaming and messaging technologies.
  • Experience designing and integrating HTTP APIs and working with external systems.
  • Good understanding of distributed‑systems fundamentals, including resilience, idempotency, retries, timeouts, rate limiting, and observability.
  • Experience with automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
  • Ability to investigate production issues systematically and turn operational learning into engineering improvements.
  • Clear communication and a collaborative approach to working with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
  • Experience with partner integrations, marketplaces, travel, e‑commerce, or other domains involving external providers.
  • Experience with data ingestion, transformation pipelines, canonical models, or schema evolution.
  • Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code, platform engineering, or improving developer tooling.
  • Experience working with high‑scale or event‑driven systems.
  • Familiarity with security, privacy, and compliance considerations for backend services.
During The Contract, You Will Help The Team
  • Deliver reliable, reusable foundations for scaling Attractions partner connectivity.
  • Improve the team’s ability to develop, deploy, monitor, and operate connectivity services.
  • Make a meaningful contribution to Attractions integrations and their long‑term scalability.
  • Reduce operational risk and leave services, documentation, and engineering practices in a stronger position than you found them.

Working model

This is a role based in Manchester, working in a hybrid model with the Attractions Connectivity team. We are looking for engineers to start as soon as possible, with contracts running until the end of 2026. There is potential for an extension, subject to business needs, but this is not guaranteed. The expected working pattern is two days per week in the office. The role does not include out of hours on‑call participation.
