Ordnance Survey in Southampton is seeking a talented Engineer on a fixed term maternity cover. This full‑time role offers hybrid working and a salary of £43,918 – £51,238 depending on experience.

You’ll develop and maintain software components, apply engineering best practices and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver secure, resilient services. The role includes production support and mentoring colleagues to raise engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Experience building and maintaining software applications and services
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and modern development practices
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments
• Knowledge of software testing, quality assurance and secure development practices

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software components and services within your area of expertise
• Apply engineering best practices and design patterns to deliver high-quality solutions
• Support continuous improvement and help optimise team delivery processes
• Ensure software is secure, resilient, well-tested and maintainable
• Support and operate live services, identifying and resolving production issues
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver business and customer value
• Contribute to code reviews, knowledge sharing and mentoring colleagues where appropriate
• Promote a culture of learning, innovation and continuous improvement
