Job summary

Apple Services Engineering in London is seeking a Software Engineer (Distributed Systems, Java) to power Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and Apple Books at a global scale. You will design, implement and operate high-performance data systems, building features across distributed caches, data stores and pipelines, with millisecond latencies and strong privacy guarantees.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable services used by millions.

The Apple Services Engineering team is looking for great engineers to build and improve features and services driving Podcasts, Apple Music, Apple Music Classical and more.Our team is responsible for many of the key systems powering personalisation features of Apple services. This includes personalised podcasts and music experiences. • Building products and services for millions of users with a focus on great customer experience and privacy
• Deploying live customer-facing features with millisecond-latencies globally over large datasets
• Distributed systems, caches and data stores
• Data modelling and data architecture as optimised for large data patterns (efficient storage and query on HDFS, realtime query patterns in key-value stores, columnar schema design etc.)
• Large scale data pipelines, using Kafka and Hadoop-ecosystem technologies

• Ability to communicate effectively, demonstrating problem-solving skills and a learning attitude
• Proven experience in designing, implementing and scaling systems and services in Java
• Demonstrable knowledge of algorithms & data structures
• Understanding of distributed systems and data storage concepts
• Undergraduate degree related to computing or equivalent experience in Java core programming is required
